When you type any url in browser and visit any site, our dns server changes the plain text to internet readable format. So that it can easily travel over network. All websites on the internet are basically in ip address format like 135.67.87.155, but the problem with this system is that we can’t understand and remember these numerical addresses for ever. So, to make it comprehensive and make easy to understand, we use website names like google.com When we enter these alphabetical addresses in our url bar and visit website; Our domain name server simply change it to their real ip address or computer readable format. And we successfully get results from the server.

Increase in speed-When we change our dns server, our speed got increase. I am not giving guarantee for this; after all it depends upon your geo location.

Reliable Connection-We got reliable connection working properly. For example suppose you are getting error in your browser while resolving server, by using another dns, your connection will become reliable and will not give you error again.

Web filtration:-Some dns like OpenDNS provide us feature of web filtration to protect us online.

Phishing protection:-Yes, you will get protection from phishing attacks and protect your information from malicious peoples.

And now it’s time to change your dns server in windows.

Step 1:- Open control panel. Now click Network and sharing center.

Step 2-Click on Change Adapter Settings on left panel.

Step 3-Now you will see all of your network adapters. Right click on the adapter of which you want to change dns and from options click on properties. For example: - I am using wifi internet connection so I will choose wireless connection.

Step 4-Now choose ipv4 or ipv6 from dropdown list. It depends upon what address you are using. I am using ipv4 so I will select ipv4 address and then from below options properties.

Step 5-Now enable Use the following DNS address: option by clicking on radio button. And enter new dns address. I am giving two dns address of google dns and open dns. You can choose which one you want to use. After entering new address click on OK button.

GoogleDNS:-

• Preferred DNS address:- 8.8.8.8
• Alternate DNS address:-8.8.4.4

OpenDNS:-

• Preferred DNS address:- 208.67.222.222
• Alternate DNS address:-208.67.220.220

Enter first address in first form i.e preferred dns and second address in second form i.e alternate dns. Use any dns from above. I am using google dns. See below image for reference. After entering address click on OK button.
